![]() So let’s explore what light whiskey truly is, and why you may now find it back on the shelves. ![]() It might surprise you to learn, then, that light whiskey has also seen something of an unexpected comeback in the last few years, but in a form that is once again new and unexpected. Rather, light whiskey is defined by different methods of distillation and aging, and exists as a relic of the 1960s and 1970s, when American whiskey was at its lowest point. It’s not part of the “better for you” alcohol fad at all. Which is to say, light whiskey has nothing at all to do with calorie content, or carbs, or residual sugar. Still, there are corners and niches of the whiskeysphere that are still largely a mystery to the average consumer, and one you may find yourself running into more frequently as of late is the term “light whiskey.” It’s an inherently deceptive term when viewed from a modern vantage point, specifically because “light whiskey” isn’t what the average person on the street would no doubt assume it to be, based solely on the name. This increased level of knowledge has its drawbacks, of course-most notably the phenomenon of bourbon price gouging, even at liquor stores-but overall it’s a net positive for drinkers. ![]() You can thank the cocktail renaissance for that, and the fetishization of bourbon and scotch in modern media that has led to far more drinkers taking an interest in “the good stuff,” as it were. ![]() Check out every entry in the series to date.ĭrinkers don’t always have an accurate conception of what exactly spirits are, and how they are made, but despite the knowledge gap that exists between your average consumer downing a mixed drink at the bar and the guy ordering neat pours of whiskey at $20 per ounce, there’s likely never been a time in our country’s history when drinkers generally understood the category of whiskey as well as they do now. Cocktail Queries is a Paste series that examines and answers basic, common questions that drinkers may have about mixed drinks, cocktails and spirits. ![]()

![]() ![]() Now that the game is officially out on the Xbox One and Playstation 4, tons of new players are going to travel to Valhalla and explore the nine realms covered by Norse mythology. The gorgeous art and the challenging puzzles keep you glued to your television set the whole way through. Kaunan: the Jotun associated with the rune representing the torch, mortality and pain. Jotun: Valhalla Edition is not an easy game. Jotun is a short experience - I completed it in about 7 hours - but the game’s brevity doesn’t forgive Jotun’s lazy game design when it comes to its exploration segments. This review is for the Jotun: Valhalla Edition - Nintendo Switch - United States (2018) release. This video shows the locations of all the God Shrines, from the start of each level. Her region is Ginnungagap (Yggdrasil and the Northern Sky). In one instance during my playthrough, an area introduced a puzzle element that involved traversing a swamp via floating rafts, but the mechanic never felt fully explored. This sleepy game design applies to Jotun’s light exploration puzzles, too. Players will come across sights such as Brokkr’s Forge, birthplace of Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, and the legendary dragon Nidhogg, gnawing at the roots of Yggdrasil, the tree that connects all of the realms. Each area presents players with new environmental hazards to overcome, but these are never more difficult than employing a well-timed roll. However in the middle of the map, slightly to the top and right there is an island i cannot reach since no elevator and no slide leads there. These power-ups, which range from healing yourself to cloning yourself, are scattered around exotic locations from Norse mythology, such as Niflheim or Yggdrasil, but sadly, exploring these areas is never nearly as exciting as their climactic boss fights. Jotun: Valhalla Edition (Wii U) When exploring the roots of ygdrasil I found the apple and the skill without problems. For all their difficulty, these fights never seem unfair - especially with the additions of special power-ups you discover throughout the game. The fight against Isa, for example, takes place on an appropriately icy battlefield that impairs Thora’s mobility, while the fight against Fe puts her in an earthy arena… surrounded by hundreds of enemies. These skirmishes are a delight – each one challenging and different from each other. ![]() To do so, she must impress the gods by slaying the fearsome jötnar, colossal titans that make up the game’s boss battles. Jotun tells the story of Thora, a Viking warrior who dies ingloriously at sea but is given a second chance to earn her place in Valhalla. Viewed from a top-down (ish) perspective, Jotun is a game mostly about exploration, and can essentially be billed as a cross between Bastion and Shadow of the Colossus. ![]() ![]() Dogs pick them up in the soil or from an infected mother during nursing. While this technology allows students to access the classroom material, some researchers have found mixed results on how well students are able to comprehend the text being read to them (Dalton & Strangman, 2006). What the research says about text-to-speechĭespite the growing popularity, the research on text to speech is somewhat unclear. It has also gained popularity in workplace settings as a tool to help users proofread their work. In recent years there has been a steady increase in the amount of TTS software available on both Android and Apple devices (Csapo, 2015). While this can help students work around their reading difficulties and access the classroom material, this technology does not assist students in developing reading skills. By presenting the words auditorily, the student can focus on the meaning of words instead of spending all their brain power trying to sound out the words. This technology is popular among students who have difficulties with reading, especially those who struggle with decoding. The person who holds that patent also has one for a device that diagnoses “body deficiencies” (the patent is not specific, but it does say you treat them with drugs) by measuring a person’s electromagnetic field. Her exact words were: “I believe in tourmaline.” We read- in a patent-that heated tourmaline can emit electromagnetic radiation that can alter the structure of your hair. Rebecca Kazin told us that she looked for tourmaline in a hair dryer but that there were no clinical studies on its being better for hair. The mineral is very pretty, but as Shapiro said: “Tourmaline? Please, squared.” It’s impossible to see the tourmaline because it’s ground up and in the barrel of the dryer, and it doesn’t have to be present in large amounts to be advertised on the box: Patents for gemstone dryers that we read involve a slew of minerals that manufacturers use to coat the inside of the dryer. Even a piddly little wall-mounted hair dryer in a hotel one tester stayed at while writing this guide claimed to have it. The bottom line is that most hair dryers have ceramic-coated elements anyway don’t let a box’s claims fool you into thinking you’re getting something special.Īnother material commonly found inside hair dryers is the mineral tourmaline, which is supposed to help reduce frizz. Regardless, you should move your dryer around as you do your hair, so the exact evenness of the heat coming from the dryer doesn’t matter too much. And though ceramic material does heat evenly, we couldn’t feel a difference in the heat coming from the dryers we tested with ceramic coils versus those made with other materials. Any heating element in a dryer gets the heat to your head via the blowing air. (Many space heaters also employ ceramic elements.) But the engineers we spoke to were skeptical that this component makes much of a difference in drying hair: Radiant heat isn’t really helpful “unless you expect to direct the heat far from the dryer,” said Shapiro, such as if you were trying to use a dryer to heat a room for some reason. Ceramic material does heat up faster and radiate heat more evenly than iron or nickel. All hair dryers work by heating up an element, such as a metal coil, and then blowing air over it, carrying the heat to your head. They provide “a more even heat” than other materials, according to Melissa Piliang. ![]() In our testing, a weight difference as small as two-tenths of a pound made a big difference in how a dryer felt overhead.Īs for other features, the dermatologists we interviewed recommended ceramic-coated coils. Weight: The lighter the dryer, the easier it is to hold for a longer period of time. How long depends on your outlet situation, but in our testing a minimum of 6 feet was most comfortable. Avoid the problem by going with a longer cord in the first place. ![]() But if your mirror is more than three steps from an outlet, there’s no way around choosing a dryer with a longer cord it’s unsafe to add an extension cord to a device that draws as large a wattage as a hair dryer. Many bathrooms have an outlet near enough to the mirror that a short cord doesn’t matter. Cord length: An often-overlooked but important feature is a cord that reaches from the outlet you want to plug your dryer into all the way to the spot where you want to stand to dry your hair.(Even if you don’t personally notice a difference, the cool air also feels nice when your head is hot.) And once your hair is totally dry, hitting the cool-shot button, according to many stylist opinions we read, helps seal your hair cuticle, keeping your hair feeling smoother. They mean you don’t have to keep blasting your hair on high-and incurring more damage-once it’s mostly dry. Heat settings: Multiple settings are a must-have. ![]() ![]() ![]() May Fire Quell Fury - Capture a Rajang.Completing this quest rewards you with the new Absolute Petalace A Blaze Among Beasts - Hunt a Rathian, Tigrex and Rakna-Kadaki.To find out more about how to unlock 7-Star Gathering Hub Quests go to the Gathering Hub Key Quests section of the guide.Īs part of the update, new quests, Arena quests and requests will become available. By 1950 the UK company EKCO was demonstrating its airborne 'cloud and collision warning search radar equipment'. In the United Kingdom, research continued to study the radar echo patterns and weather elements such as stratiform rain and convective clouds, and experiments were done to evaluate the potential of different wavelengths from 1 to 10 centimeters.
